Affordable housing is becoming my…”thing” shall we say. By “thing” of course, really I mean passion. I’m exceedingly grateful that my family had the opportunity to purchase our first home at the end of summer. I’m even more grateful for the other families that I’ve helped along the way. I am acutely aware, however, of those who haven’t had the same fortunate that I’ve had.
We need more housing, plain and simple. This is true across the spectrum. However, what is also true is that it’s time to end the paradigm that affordable housing = rental housing. Single family homes should be included in the mix. That’s why I was extremely grateful to an old colleague (and friend!) who reached out to bring me on board to the Family Services Committee for Solano Napa Habitat for Humanity as a volunteer. There will be some training involved but I’m looking forward to doing something…even if it’s perfectly imperfect (to borrow from John Legend). Time to put my 💵 where my 👄 is.
